Adjustable potentiometers are widely used in electronic components of circuits. At present, many products use adjustable power resistor. Do you know what to pay attention to when installing them?

1. In general, the flux used in the welding process of potentiometer should not be too much, so as not to lead to the fuse of the lead end of potentiometer or welding failure. So usually the flux added at each end of potentiometer should be appropriate, if not enough, it can be added again.

2. After the potentiometer is welded, please do not move or touch the solder joints of the potentiometer with your hands immediately, so as not to cause burns and other accidents easily on the one hand. Secondly, the pin solder joint of the potentiometer is not fully solidified, even if there are some slight triggers, it may lead to disconnection, resulting in unstable welding and virtual welding.

3. Usually before using the adjustable power resistor, we should pay attention to adding lubricating oil at the rotating shaft of the potentiometer. The main function of adding lubricating oil is to prevent the metal elements inside the potentiometer from rusting. Otherwise, a long time will lead to some immobility of the potentiometer and affect the accuracy of the potentiometer regulation.

4. Next, when adjusting the rotating axis of the potentiometer, please be careful not to let some impurities and water intrude into the potentiometer from the rotating axis, otherwise it will easily lead to the failure of the potentiometer.

5. The adjustable power resistor has been in use for a long time, quality inspection should be carried out regularly, such as checking whether the shaft handle of the potentiometer rotates flexibly, adjusting without mechanical noise, whether the fixed screw is loose and whether the internal components are damaged by aging. Otherwise, there are great potential safety hazards in the use of potentiometers.

The Difference between Potentiometer and Encoder

As a common electronic component, the appearance of trimmer potentiometer and encoder sometimes looks the same, leading to confusing concepts. In fact, these two electronic components are essentially different. We can distinguish them by the following points.

1. The difference of rotation angle between trimmer potentiometer and encoder
Potentiometer and encoder are essentially different. The direct way to distinguish them is to rotate them. If the rotation angle is less than one circle, the potentiometer and the encoder can rotate indefinitely at 360 degrees.

2. The difference of working principle between trimmer potentiometer and encoder
Potentiometer: The principle is to change the resistance output by rotation, because there are resistors inside the potentiometer, resistors have angle limitations, so the rotation angle is less than 360 degrees.
Encoder: The principle is to change the pulse output by rotating, because the internal contact of the encoder is to change the pulse through switching on and off, so it can rotate 360 degrees indefinitely.
