Audio taper potentiometer commonly used 6 pins and 8 pins potentiometer, if it is the type of 8 pins, generally the left two are used to do the same loudness, can not be connected.            

The resistance curves of audio taper potentiometer are generally linear (B type) and exponential (A type). If you use the above connection to control the volume, you should use an exponential potentiometer, so that the potentiometer can adjust the same angle and the change of the volume heard by the human ear is almost the same. In some cases, such as tone circuits, linear potentiometers are required.            

The knobs of the Octopod potentiometer of the audio cone potentiometer are side-by-side with your own left-to-right wiring. The two side-by-side with the ground wire are the audio output (signal input of output power amplifier board) and the third row is the two side-by-side with the right-most audio input (MP3 or other sound sources such as DVD).
