What is the rotary switch potentiometer? First of all, potentiometer is generally composed of shell, sliding shaft, resistor and three lead-out terminals, and there are many kinds of potentiometers, according to the regulation mode can be divided into rotary (or rotary shank) potentiometer and straight-sliding potentiometer. According to the number of connected can be divided into single-connected and multi-connected potentiometers, in addition to the distinction between the switch and no switch two kinds. So for differentiating potentiometers with switches, we usually call rotary switch potentiometers.

Adjusting method of rotary switch potentiometer
For the regulation method of rotary switching potentiometer, it usually has a positive and negative symmetrical power supply in the circuit of the equipment. First, when the central contact C slides to the potentiometer A, the OUT output voltage is + 12V. On the contrary, when the central contact C slides to the potentiometer B, the OUT output voltage is - 12V. At this time, the C of the potentiometer can be adjusted within the range of 0-∞V. Therefore, the volume of the potentiometer is the smallest when the central contact C slides to potentiometer B, and the volume is the largest when the potentiometer's central contact C slides to potentiometer A.

Fault and repair method of rotary switch potentiometer
1. If the resistance of the potentiometer is deviated too much from the nominal resistance when the potentiometer is usually used to detect the fixed pin ends on both sides, it may be that there is a short circuit inside the pin end of the potentiometer. In order to deal with this kind of fault, we recommends that you usually choose to replace potentiometers. Generally inconvenient to repair, because this kind of pin internal short circuit and other faults are due to some of the internal components have been damaged, even if repaired, the use of resistors will be severely burned open circuit due to overcurrent.
2. The common fault of general rotary encoder potentiometer produces relatively large rotational noise when it is regulated. The main reason is that the contact between the movable plate contacts and the resistors is not good because of the wear of the resistors, which leads to the value of resistance being changed from big to small, resulting in noise when it is regulated. In order to deal with the noise fault of potentiometer, the potentiometer can be removed first, and then a little industrial lubricant can be added to the rotating shaft of potentiometer. Its purpose is to reduce friction while adjusting the rotating shaft, thereby reducing the wear and tear on the resistor, thus eliminating the use of potentiometer. This kind of noise fault.

Notes for use of rotary switch potentiometers
1. Before the potentiometer is used, the rotary encoder potentiometer must be carefully checked, such as whether the lead-out terminals between the pins of the potentiometer are loose, and whether the contact is good and reliable. Otherwise, the use of potentiometers with faults will not only affect the normal operation of the equipment circuit, but also may lead to damage of other components in the circuit.
2. When the rotary encoder potentiometer is installed into the circuit, more attention should be paid to whether the three pins of the potentiometer are connected correctly. If there is a connection error, it may lead to some volume adjustment failure or the volume adjustment is not dead.
3. In addition to the rotary switching potentiometer, there is also a push-pull potentiometer with switching potentiometer in the market at present, so for the two types of potentiometers with different specifications, we should distinguish clearly to use.
