The Difference between Potentiometer and Micro-adjustable Resistance
Date:2018-12-06 Views:385
Potentiometer is a kind of variable resistor. It is usually composed of a six-foot potentiometer resistor body and a rotating or sliding system. That is, a movable contact moves on the resistor body to obtain partial voltage output. What's the difference between a potentiometer and a micro-adjustable resistor?

1. Different structure/power. The trimmer potentiometer has handle, variety has carbon film, winding, power has several watts, can be regularly adjusted, such as radio volume adjustment; micro-adjustable resistance generally has no handle, with Lobby adjustment, not to allow users to adjust, a good adjustment will not move, the variety is basically carbon film, power is small, less than 1 watt.

2. Adjustable scope. The trimmer potentiometer can be adjusted in a wide range, mainly used for circuit (voltage or current) control, generally installed on the panel, easy to adjust; micro-adjustable resistance adjustable range is small, mainly used for circuit parameter compensation, generally installed on the circuit board.

Third, the way of adjustment. The trimmer potentiometer is adjusted by a handle and knob where it needs to be adjusted frequently; the adjustable resistance is adjusted by a tool where it does not need to be adjusted frequently.

The potentiometer consists of a resistor and a rotating or sliding system. When a voltage is applied between the two fixed contacts of the resistor, the position of the contacts on the resistor is changed by rotating or sliding system, and a voltage related to the position of the moving contacts can be obtained between the moving contacts and the fixed contacts. It is mostly used as a voltage divider, when the potentiometer is a four-terminal element. The potentiometer is basically a sliding rheostat. There are several types of potentiometers, which are generally used to adjust the power of loudspeaker volume switch and laser head. The potentiometer is an adjustable electronic component.

What's the difference between single and dual gang potentiometer

Single potentiometer is a kind of potentiometer with single channel and only one resistor. Its axis only controls a group of potentiometers. The dual gang potentiometer refers to a dual channel. The two potentiometers are mounted on one axis. When the rotation axis is adjusted, the contacts of the two potentiometers rotate simultaneously. For example, WH134-K2 is a dual coaxial switched potentiometer. For example, in stereo equipment, when the volume and tone of two channels need to be synchronized, the dual potentiometer should be selected.

Some dual gang potentiometer are asynchronous asynchronous axes, that is, the two axes are concentric axes, which do not interfere with each other, and each axis adjusts its associated contacts. For example, the WH134-3 type is a dual off-axis non-switching potentiometer. The metal film potentiometer is characterized by good heat resistance, high resolution, wide frequency range, low noise and small distributed inductance. Its shortcomings are poor wear resistance and high price, which can be used in high frequency circuits.
